About Jennifer Nixon

Jennifer Nixon Psychotherapist Counsellor

I believe counselling should provide a space where you feel heard, respected and safe to explore your experiences without judgement.

My role is not to tell you what you should feel or what you should do. Instead, I work collaboratively with you to understand what is happening and explore ways forward that are meaningful for you.

My Qualifications & Professional Memberships

Master of Counselling and Applied Psychotherapy (MCAP)
Australian Counselling Association — Level 3
Bachelor of Computer Science

My Professional Experience

I have worked for several years in the domestic and family violence space and previously with victims of crime. I have volunteered with Lifeline in crisis support and Griefline, and more recently running my own private practice working with adults who have experienced wide rage of presentations including trauma, grief and loss, life changes, work-related issues and family relationship breakdowns.

My Therapeutic Philosophy

I believe that many of the thoughts, emotions and behaviours we struggle with can make sense when understood in the context of our experiences.

Therapy can provide an opportunity to understand these patterns rather than simply judge or criticise ourselves for them.

My approach is compassionate, collaborative, trauma-informed and strengths-based.
